As of 2023, there were a reported 3,318 health and wellness spa businesses in the UK. Despite the high cost of living, people are prioritising their wellness now more than ever and 73% of consumers in the UK consider wellness a top or important priority in their lives.
This shift in mindset is reflected in consumer spending, with an increasing number of people choosing to allocate their funds towards their wellbeing, and many even considering it an essential part of their lifestyle. In fact, in 2023, consumers in the UK annually spent £4,600 or more on wellness and self-care. When we break down these numbers, it's fascinating to see that annually £560 went towards massages, £623 towards spa days, and £560 towards manicures and pedicures.
Recent data from TRYBE indicates that spending on wellness packages in the first half of 2024 saw a significant increase of 20% compared to the previous year. TRYBE data shows that spa-goers in the UK are spending an average of £222 per visit. The rise in package bookings, which encompass multiple elements of a spa day including treatments, dining, and activities, further emphasises the growing interest in holistic wellness experiences. Interestingly, 93% of bookings through TRYBE are for packages, in comparison to 7% of bookings for individual treatments.
Offering spa packages gives guests the option to experience multiple aspects of your spa that they may not have considered, and also creates the impression that they’re getting good value for money, as they are often cheaper than if purchased separately. Packages are one way as a spa in which you can increase guest spending.
The wellness industry isn’t showing any signs of declining spending despite wider economic factors. The upward trajectory in spending reflects a growing willingness to invest in a healthier lifestyle and emphasises the importance of relaxation in today's society.
